MINI BIO courtesy of Audio Blood Media:
Front man Rajiv Thavanathan grew up in St. John’s, playing in many local bands such as My Antonia and Johnny Jump Up. After relocating to Toronto in 2005, Rajiv eventually formed Oh No Forest Fires with musicians from other well known acts like The Most Serene Republic, Fox Jaws, and Vulcan Dub Squad.
Oh No Forest Fires independently released their debut EP The War on Geometry to instant critical adoration. Exclaim! wrote, “It’s like snipers of weirdness lay waiting inside the psyches of the scruffy members of ONFF, who, to outward appearances, are accomplished, polished, even stately composers of epic pop gems” and NOW Toronto scribed, “”Oh No [Forest Fires] assert their own charming identity with complex four-minute ranging song structures and frequent jumps between stop-starts and protracted, frenetic guitar duels”. Riding the success of charting #3 on CBC Radio 3, and a recent nomination for an XM Verge Artist of the Year award, the band is excited to bring their spastic live show to St. John’s for the very first time.
You say you like rock and roll? You say you like sugar coated pop? Say no more. -If you go to rock shows in Toronto then you will likely come face to face with the raucous guitar pandemonium and explosive sing-a-longs that is a Oh No Forest Fires set. And when it happens, be warned. You may be transformed into a very sweaty young child that substitutes a sugar binge for a forgotten Ritalin dosage. Amidst juicy and dynamic pop songs, Oh No Forest Fires find a home for epic post rock guitar frenzies. With too-catchy-too-be-true choruses tying the beautifully messy songs together, anything can happen while the four piece is on stage. Comprised of past members of The Most Serene Republic, Five Blank Pages, Fox Jaws, and the Vulcan Dub Squad, Oh No Forest Fires are much more than your average super group, and much louder too. Hot off the heels of their debut release, The War on Geometry, the band is ready to leave their mark on 2009. So do you like pop ‘n’ roll or what?
